Weekly Astrology Forecast for May 7-13, 2023* - Prepare for the Unexpected

Hey star-gazers! I’m no monarchist, but even I found myself getting swept up in the excitement of the coronation this week — the pomp, the ceremony, the splashy displays of opulence! I splurged on some English bangers and a classy can of “British-style” Heinz baked beans for a coronation-themed breakfast. (Not quiche! Quel horreur!) I’ll no doubt be noshing on my Full English as some of you read this. While the event feels a little out of sync with the current zeitgeist, a part of me is nevertheless curious how the astrology of the day will play out.

King Charles III is having his nodal return in his Taurean tenth house, which seems apropos for someone fulfilling their destined “career” birthright. At the same time, however, the transiting Moon, fresh off the May 5 penumbral lunar eclipse, is in its fall in Scorpio and applying to a conjunction to his natal Chiron in his fourth house, suggesting some difficulties in healing old wounds connected with home and family. (I have no clue what that could be referring to!?)

The chart for the ceremony’s starting time of 11:00 a.m. BST has a lovely Leo ascendant with the Sun in the tenth — a very kingly placement. It’s applying to a conjunction to Uranus, which will perfect later this week by transit and, theoretically, within the next two years by secondary progression in the event chart, so could this signal something unexpected and potentially a little destabilizing concerning his reign happening in very short order. We’ll just have to wait and see what that could be, but, for now, us commoners have some transits to look at!

May 7 begins with Venus’ sign change, moving from social Gemini to homebody Cancer. In this sign, Venus has no major dignity, but enjoys some minor dignities by triplicity, decan, and bound in the early middle degrees, making this a slightly more comfortable placement for the Lesser Benefic.

Upon entry, Venus will form a sign-based trine to Saturn in Pisces. The partile aspect, however, won’t perfect until May 13, which could make Venus a bit more restrained in expressing her emotions. Nevertheless, we could be under the influence of this applying aspect all week, experiencing the prudence and caution that Saturn brings to emotional and familial matters. Be on your guard in the weeks ahead, since you could find yourself more sensitive to the world around you as Venus glides through emotional Cancer. A certain amount of self-care could do us all a world of good!

On May 9, expect one of the more wild days of the month as the Sun meets up with Uranus in Taurus, making this a slightly bizarre day for your self-expression, desires and actions. In Taurus, the Sun has been concerned with digging in and firmly planting its flag in the ground, marking territory and sowing seeds for cultivation. As it meets up with electrical, unpredictable and revolutionary Uranus, all the ideas that we hold dear and all the work that we may have done could find itself up in the air. Be prepared to make bold and unusual choices, or pivot from your current direction. It’s much easier to respond proactively to the jarring effects of a Uranus transit than fall victim to the planet of chaotic changes forcing its agenda upon you.

Venus’ sextile to the Node of Fate on May 10 could offer up an unexpected communication related to friends, family or loved ones. I wouldn’t, however, count this as some significant turning point, but perhaps new intelligence that could help you release old patterns and defensive behaviours as you see loved ones in a new light.

On May 12, Mercury in Taurus forms a double-sextile — on the one hand, sextiling Saturn in Pisces, and Venus in Cancer on the other. This is an interesting constellation (no pun intended!), since Mercury is still retrograde in Taurus until the beginning of the following week; its beneficial aspects to planets in receptive signs could offer positive synchronicities from your past, which you could harness for your mental and financial benefit.

The sextile to Saturn in Pisces could also be on the table to help you put some firmer emotional structures in place when it comes to money matters. If you’re someone who tends towards retail therapy or sudden impulse purchases, then Saturn may be here to help you clean mental and emotional blockages and bring its curtailing energies to your sign of personal finances.

The sextile to Venus in Cancer can bring a nice social opportunity with friends and family. If you’re looking to kick back, indulge and take it easy, this could be the aspect under which to do it and lovely close to a slightly bumpier week.
