Hey star-gazers! Welcome to the month of April. An exciting astrological month kicks off this Saturday!
Not only will we be living a bit more steadily through the major energetic sign shifts initiated last month, but we also have an eclipse on April 20 to contend with. This is a rare second New Moon in Aries if anyone’s counting. Double the fresh starts, perhaps?
The tenor of the month is a bit heavier on practicality and emotionality. A lack of personal and social planets in air signs could leave us feeling a little bored intellectually, so don’t expect this to be a red-letter month for big ideas or flashes of brilliance.
Pluto in Aquarius excepted, the concentration of planets from Pisces to Taurus also spells a symbolic and archetypal process of winding up and dying down on the one hand, and ramping up for something new on the other.
Saturn and Neptune in Pisces are asking us to dream a new dream — to tear down and build up a new foundation in the sectors of our lives under the jurisdiction of the fishes.
Saturn can bring retreat, coldness, austerity and feelings of loneliness. In Pisces, bereft of boundaries, the sectors of our lives that find it on the house cusp may experience energetic efforts towards deconstruction of past beliefs that haven’t stood up to scrutiny.
Hopes may have been dashed by the yo-yo-ing direct and retrograde movements of Neptune through Pisces for more than a decade.
And a stark realization may befall us…
We may realize that the castles in the air that came crashing down months ago left us with some decent rubble for Saturn to build back stronger and better.
I’m also coming to the conclusion in my own life that Saturn’s transit through spiritual and transcendent Pisces will also be about testing our faith. Saturn’s anxiety-inducing, fear-mongering side can sometimes challenge our beliefs in the process of life’s unfolding and the benevolence of the Universe. I’m no Stoic philosopher, but I would like to believe that our cosmos is ultimately ordered, rational and, above all, kind, and Saturn in a sign of faith can lead us to question that.
The Sun will continue its jaunt through Aries through most of the month, entering Taurus just after the eclipse.
This is going to be an important month for fulfilling our solar destiny in pioneering and independence-oriented Aries, with a conjunction to Jupiter augmenting the expansive, growth-oriented and star-studded powers of the Greater Benefic.
The eclipse will also be significant for closing out the karmic cycle of nearly eighteen months of eclipses across the Taurus-Scorpio axis of our charts.
With two more eclipses in Scorpio and Taurus to go this year in May and October respectively, this month’s eclipse on the last degree of Aries may offer us both an ending and a new beginning in the areas of our charts under the dominion of the ram.
Finally, gird your loins for Mercury retrograde season from April 21-May 15. This is a roughly three-week period where we can expect things in our lives to go a bit haywire.
With that, let’s dive in and take a look at the weeks ahead!
—
We close the month with a few transits worth noting, including Mercury’s conjunction with Jupiter taking place in the sign of Aries on March 28.
This is a transit that I especially like for broadening our mental perspectives and helping us to see matters differently. Jupiter’s wisdom-granting energies could equip us with the philosophical wisdom we need to deploy actionable knowledge that bring us closer to realizing our personal goals and ambitions.
Mercury’s applying conjunction to Chiron in Aries earlier in the week can help continue healing aspects of our personal identity that have been subject to some major reckonings in previous weeks. As the planet that governs the signs of information-gathering, thought, assimilation and analysis perfects with the wounded-healer asteroid, expect Mercury to facilitate personal commitments around cleaning up your mental script.
The March 30 astrological double-bill is sure to be one for your celestial calendar as Venus conjuncts Uranus in Taurus and Mars in Cancer trines Saturn in Pisces. The combined energies may make for a conflicted emotional day: on the one hand, we may be drawn to sudden expressions of affection with loved ones, while ultimately repressing an instance of emotional hurt on the other.
Mars in the place of its fall in Cancer can sometimes struggle with nurturing, affection and even feelings of vulnerability or victimization. Sometimes its unchecked energies in Cancer could lead us to lash out or to express ourselves without a great deal of forethought. The trine to Saturn in Pisces could help mitigate this tendency, not only introducing restraint, but also offering focus in emotional Pisces.
Be aware that this transit could also amplify our insecurities, call into question a belief in our own competence, capacity or stamina, or undermine our abilities to think clearly and strategically, so try not to let it get you down as it lingers into the first days of April.
And, of course, Venus conjunct Uranus can have a slightly wrench-throwing tendency, bringing more disruptions than constructive energy to our relationships. While I do think we need to prepare for that potential manifestation, including the more amplifying signature from the North Node in a wide conjunction, ultimately this signature could balance out and mitigate the Mars-Saturn energies by bringing unexpected romantic meetings and encounters, potential financial benefits, or sudden urges to pamper and indulge ourselves.
