Hey star-gazers! The rubber hits the road this week as Mercury enters Gemini where it remains delightfully domiciled until June 27. If you’ve been waiting for an auspicious time to undertake myriad Mercurial endeavours — writing, learning, teaching marketing, networking — now is the time to brace yourself for high-speed action.
The week ahead begins with the star of Hermes flying into the constellation of Castor and Pollux, one of the two places where it’s strongly situated in the zodiac. Over the next two weeks, Mercury will pick up speed, moving almost two degrees a day by June 18, which the ancients believed was a favourable portend to planetary promises coming to fruition faster. Expect your inboxes to explode, contracts to get inked, and your social calendar to intensify as the messenger of the gods calls you directly.
I really like the next few weeks for the feeling of accomplishment on offer. Those of us who might have grappled with Mercury’s prolonged stay in Taurus earlier this spring could feel relief in matters pertaining to learning, skills development, innovative ideas, money matters, or the house topics that Taurus corresponds to in our individual charts. The fast-thinking, fast-acting influence of Mercury, strengthened by returning to one of its home signs, should abate any frustrations we might have encountered this past spring, while the nearly instant trine that Mercury forms to Pluto in Aquarius should have us succeeding at whatever we put our minds to.
The other nice energy taking place on June 11 is Venus in Leo’s square to Jupiter in Taurus which could have you jonesing for time on the patio with your besties. This could certainly be a pleasure-driven transit, with the square between the two benefics potentially acting more catalytically and impulsively than overtly conflictual. Either way, this and the Moon’s roughly two-day cruise through Taurus beginning on June 13, will be a brief but beneficial period where pleasure and pampering may offer a reprieve to some otherwise intense energies hitting you in the first-half of the month.
A square between Mercury in Gemini and Saturn in Pisces occurring on June 15 is a transit that I’m personally looking forward to. Although Saturn’s leaden structure and propensity for diligent and focused work may be somewhat diluted in diffuse Pisces, it could still add some supportive weight to Mercury, who it’s answering to in the sky by a very long dispositor chain. This is the day where it could be good for both your mind and soul to look after some personal affairs requiring mental concentration, critical thinking and research skills.
Although Saturn in Pisces squaring Mercury in Gemini could find you being misunderstood by those around you, in the immortal words of Taylor Swift, “Shake it off!” Recognize that any criticism you might field for your thoughts and statements are merely a product of the more friction-causing archetypal energies. And, of course, Mercury may feel a little relief as it sextiles Venus in Leo on June 17, getting a gentler emotional response from its relationship encounters.
June 17 is also notable for Saturn’s retrograde station. This roughly four-and-a-half-month transit will last all the way into November in calendar time, while taking some of us on a trip back in abstract archetypal time to March of this year. Over the next few months, we could come down with serious cases of retrograde deja-vu, encountering people, places, things and emotions that we might have ignored in those Piscean-ruled areas of our charts.
For some of us, this retrograde period could reflect where we neglected to put adequate structures in place for our overall success, whether it’s boundaries between work and leisure across that fourth-tenth or sixth-twelfth house axes, or in our closest relationships across the first-seventh and fifth-eleventh.
Depending on natal placements, early degree mutable placements could feel especially hammered by Saturn’s three-peat crisscrossing. Believe it or not, the hard, coldness of Saturn can sometimes illuminate where we’re too hard on ourselves — where we fail to show adequate compassion for the people that we were, are and will become.
