Weekly Astrology Forecast for February 5–11, 2023* - Too Late to Say Sorry?

Hey star-gazers! I’ve been knee-deep in the ephemeris this week, poking around for a decent window to elect a surgery date. I may need to go under the knife this spring, which, after avoiding a surgeon’s scalpel all my life, makes me a little nervous.

Perhaps I’d be calmer were it not for a cautionary tale around the importance of planetary alignments which unfolded back in January. A friend underwent surgery while both Mars AND Mercury were retrograde and the post-op experience was complicated, painful and enough to send me running for the stars.

With Mercury turning retrograde in the last weeks of April, just one day after the hybrid solar eclipse, I’m drawing the provisional conclusion that many of the best days for new undertakings may be immediately ahead of us.

While it’s always possible to find suitable electional dates while planets are retrograde, the best celestial bang or your buck is invariably before anything changes direction in the sky, so do your own research if you’re contemplating any big initiatives this year. Depending on your goals and the nature of the undertaking, the next several weeks could contain the configurations you need for optimal terrestrial results.

Now, let’s dive into the astrology of the week ahead.

We begin the week under the lingering square between Venus in Pisces and Mars in Gemini, which perfected on Saturday, February 4. Some of us may have experienced this transit as a direct confrontation — a war of words with a paramour who failed to live up to our expectations. Intensified on Sunday by the perfecting sextile between Vesta in Pisces and Pluto in Capricorn, the heavens could be ripe for some emotional bubble-bursting.

In Pisces, the value of emotional connections are paramount, and the concentrated energies of Venus, Vesta and Neptune can place pressure on the ideals we hold for romantic relationships and friendships. Setting the bar high is not necessarily a bad thing, but these archetypal energies could quickly lose their grip on reality, increasing the likelihood of disappointment when people can’t live up to our standards.

For others, the Venus-Mars square may have challenged us to verbalize our deepest desires. When presented with an opportunity to make something happen, we could have struggled with the right words, or simply felt it easier to dream the dream rather than go after it. Given that retrograde Ceres in Libra is opposing Jupiter in Aries, any feelings of lack around support or resources from our relationships could be amplified. Either way, sliding into the Leo Full Moon on Sunday, February 5, the energy could be bumpier than we bargained for.

The Leo Full Moon on Sunday may present its own challenges to our emotional independence, sense of obligation to others, and overriding impulse to fly in the face of predictability. Squaring Uranus in Taurus, some of us could see a shake up in our romantic relationships, while others could experience an unexpected celestial hit to their finances.

However, it’s not all bleak: Chiron in a fairly wide sextile to the Sun could present a significant counterweight to the volatility of this lunation, offering us an opportunity to heal lingering issues around our dreams getting short-shrift. In the past, some of us may have had to shelve our ambitions, or rejig our plans owing to various competing personal commitments; if we’ve resented it on any level, Chiron could allow us to come to terms with the limitations of past realities.

While both the Moon and Sun are separating from aspects to Mars, the Sun’s next aspect is its conjunction to Saturn next week, so I’d likely avoid using this Moon for any manifestation rituals. Instead, I’d focus on working with the Saturnian energies that underpin this lunation by reviewing where we may not have previously set healthy boundaries, where we may have sacrificed our own emotional needs out of obligation or necessity, or where fear may be holding us back from pursuing our personal agenda.

On February 6, Mercury sextiles Neptune in a repeat transit which could echo the first pass Mercury made over Neptune while it was retrograde on January 2. Back then you may have been using this energy to consider reviving an old dream and with Mercury in do-the-work Saturn, you were likely thinking about how to make it happen from a practical perspective. This transit could pick up that theme, but this time, with Mercury direct, the storyline could be about concrete actions that bring you one step closer to actualizing an important personal goal.

The other aspect to mark on the calendar beginning on Monday is the nearing conjunction between Juno and Chiron in Aries. I’d like to think of this as a ‘mea culpa’ transit — the kiss-and-make-up energies that heal any weekend conflict that the Venus-Mars square may have incited. With Juno in passionate Aries applying to the wounded-healer asteroid between February 6–8, leverage the celestial configuration to offer your partner an olive branch and chat through any misunderstandings.

On February 8, Venus in Pisces will sextile Uranus in Taurus, making this an unexpected day for running into a new suitor, or looking for a little shake-up in your love life. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, this is the quintessential meet-cute transit, and in receptive signs the likelihood of a fortuitous event falling into our laps is considerably heightened.

For those who are relationship-free, don’t discount the effects of this transit for compelling you into making impulsive luxury purchases. Venus in Pisces could have you tuning into your feelings, including into desires for greater self-care, beautification, or comfort through retail therapy. As long as you can afford it, go for it because the week will end on a crunchier note.

On February 10, Mercury conjuncts Pluto, making this a slightly challenging day for communications. Given that Pluto can rattle skeletons in our closets, or throw some serious power plays our way, Mercury’s more difficult transit through Capricorn may be best served by riding this aspect out as calmly and strategically as possible.

In this Saturn-ruled sign, Mercury may be able to play the long game, allowing us to navigate any upsets we encounter by seeing the longer-term picture. Just be aware that the heavy Saturnian and Plutonian doses of fear and angst could make this Mercury a little more on-edge than usual, so if you’re prone to letting your worries run away with you, be ready to work through emotional upsets using your usual arsenal of calming strategies.
