Weekly Astrology Forecast for February 12–18, 2023* -Seeing New Sides of an Old Problem

Hey star-gazers! Raise your virtual hands if you’ve had enough of Mars in Gemini. I’ll raise mine and vigorously wave it as Mars perfected this past week to a conjunction with my natal Moon, leading me to a repeat struggle with some swelling in my lower extremities.

With a natal Jupiter retrograde in my third house, faith and its rigorous praxis has never been my strong suit. While I’m all about alternative healing modalities, I can’t discount my deeply ingrained cultural default to worship at the altar of Western science, and so a certain medical website had me deep in the armchair diagnostics, verifying the degree to which my concern should extend.

Suffice to say, I’ve written out my ‘edema affirmation’ as any faithful disciple of Jung would, recognizing the divinity in the affliction and the potent attention-seeking message that my body is sending me under this celestial configuration. This said, I’m officially and unequivocally done with this starry alignment and can’t wait for the new adventures that Mars in Cancer will bring.

With that, let’s tackle the astrology of the week ahead!

Though the week of February 12 is a little light on critical aspects between the major planets, we can’t overlook the fact that Mercury dipped into Aquarius on February 11, leading to a mental shift to start the week.

Mercury has a minor dignity in Aquarius by triplicity, so, while it’s still in a heavy Saturn-ruled sign, it functions a bit better in the Greater Malefic’s airy domicile.

Our thoughts may turn to ideas of service or to social causes. Alternatively, we may find our desires veering toward more unpredictable and liberating shake-ups. Drawn to innovative ideas, Mercury could have us exploring our mental limits and challenging the rigidity of our beliefs. After Mercury’s jaunt through structured Capricorn, this may be a welcome cognitive refresh, reminding us to entertain new perspectives, see multiple sides of an issue, and (though it may pain some of us) bend a little where our most fervent beliefs are concerned.

The Sun creeping closer to its conjunction with Saturn in the water-bearer’s sign may amplify this shift in Mercury’s tone. As much as Saturn is a boundary-maker, in Aquarius it’s more likely to push those boundaries or to experiment with new ones, though still respecting the overall rules of the sandbox in which it’s playing.

Mercury could further benefit from the sextile that it makes to Vesta in Aries, potentially softening the colder and drier nature of Saturn-ruled Aquarius. A gentler approach to individual assertion, expressions of personal desires and espousal of our beliefs could rule the day, helping Mercury balance any brittleness that it could experience from the climate of its Aquarian real estate.

Although the Venus-Neptune conjunction will perfect on February 15, expect to feel its influence as early as February 13. Those in relationships could find themselves swept up in a tidal wave of magical romance, amplifying feelings of amorousness or emotional intensity. Creative types could expect their artistic projects to take on a more mystical tone, or inspiration could strike through the heightened potential of vivid nighttime dreams.

For anyone who is relationship-free but feeling inspired to change that, this could be an excellent transit under which to journal or to create a vision-board; your imagination may be more fully attuned to the type of relationship that you would like to manifest.

Around February 14, Venus in Pisces and Hygeia in Capricorn meet up in the sky in a pleasant sextile. This could be a configuration under which you’re reminded of the toll that relentless ambition and steely determination could take on your physical health. With Venus in an emotional, intuitive and sensitive sign, you could find yourself more attuned to your inner needs, contemplating a balance between the intense drive that Hygeia applying to power-seeking Pluto could already be affecting.

On February 15, Mercury in Aquarius trines retrograde Ceres in Libra, potentially amplifying any thoughts that might have surfaced last week as some of us reminisced about the extent to which our personal relationships may not have lived up to the support that we expected from them. As Mercury could have us further reflecting on these past circumstances, expect a positive turn, including a potential rethink of how we’ve framed the narrative, and how we might grow past it.

As the Sun conjuncts Saturn in Aquarius on February 16, we may find ourselves ultimately struggling with asserting our independence against the overriding forces of obligation in our lives — whether that’s to loved ones or to our careers.

While this is an excellent nose-to-the-grindstone transit for accomplishments, it could come at a price — this could include emotional or physical isolation, or a sense of heaviness, resentment, or sorrow, like we’re having to make an expensive trade to achieve our solar aims.

This isn’t a transit to fear, but rather to be cognizant of the seeming intensity that it could afford us, echoing the energies of the Full Moon in Leo earlier in the month, in which we were being asked to choose between our solar aims and our collective responsibilities.

On February 17, Mercury in Aquarius sextiles Jupiter in Aries in a fabulous configuration for regaining any sense of independence that the Sun-Saturn conjunction could have robbed us of. Feelings of being hemmed in or challenged to imagine ways out of our current circumstances could be blessedly dissolved in an aspect that will invariably gift a broader perspective on our situation.

Jupiter still in fiery Aries can shine a spotlight on all the ways that we do, have and can manifest individual autonomy and independence, while Mercury in out-of-the-box Aquarius is all about novel solutions. Expect exciting insights and the potential for a way out of present circumstances if they’ve got you down.

Finally, on February 18, the Sun enters Pisces, shifting the energetic profile for the next thirty days. In Pisces, the Sun is all about our emotional fulfillment — a desire to go deep and to find our spiritual centre. In doing so, some of the energies that may have been directing us toward creative problem-solving this month may find longer-term solutions by restoring our faith in ourselves and in the Universe.
